About me and this site
I am a Professor of Neuroscience at the Institute of Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience, part of King s College London where I am heavily involved in teaching and research. Currently I teach at all levels of the undergraduate degree in Psychology, delivering an introductory Biological Psychology module, a second year module on Contemporary Issues in Neuroscience and a final year module teaching how to teach in Higher Education. I am a Principal Fellow of the HEA and have received of teaching awards. I also work closely with the Centre for Technology Enhanced Learning as their Academic Advisor.
I completed my first degree in Psychology at Sheffield University before completing an MSc in Neuroscience at King's College London and then returning to Sheffield for a PhD. Alongside my PhD I completed my first formal teaching qualification (PCHE) and started teaching as an Associate Lecturer (Tutor) at the Open University, a role which changed my views of education and inspired me to making teaching a core part of my academic career. After my PhD I worked at Oxford University as a postdoctoral researcher and Junior Research Fellow at Somerville College before becoming at lecturer at Lady Margaret Hall and taking up my first full academic post at the Open University. From there I moved to King's College London as a Senior Lecturer and later Reader and Professor. During this time I also completed an MA in Online and Distance Education.
I am using this site as a place to express my own views on education more generally. Sometimes these views are based on papers or books I have read or my own experiences teaching.
